We continue to receive fantastic input from the Morton Grove community about your vision for the future of Dempster Street. Read on for the latest engagement updates.
Community Survey Results
Open for six weeks and promoted widely across the Village, the Dempster Corridor Plan survey collected nearly 350 responses! Key themes and findings from the results include a common desire for:
- More points of interest that invite you to stop and stay
- Safe, walkable streets
- Fill in gaps for a more bustling and vibrant place
- Better connections and less traffic congestion for all modes of transportation
The complete survey summary is live and ready for review here.
Pop-Up #3: Sustainability Expo

The planning team hosted a third pop-up event as part of the Village’s Sustainability Expo on September 13th. Dozens of community members stopped by the Dempster table to share ideas, with some people learning about and engaging in the process for the first time. Participants shared their wishes for a Dempster that has…
- Redevelopment/new uses at key sites like the former CVS
- Pedestrian and bicycle safety, particularly around schools, parks, and business areas
- Traffic calming and speeding enforcement
- Safer crossings (overpasses over Dempster, new traffic signs/speeding enforcement)
- Trader Joe’s or a higher-end grocery store
- Restaurants, cafés, and hangout spots
- Small/local businesses, and some who also want big box retail and chain options
- Gathering places—both indoor (cafés, hangouts) and outdoor (public squares, green space)
- Arts, culture, and wellness as community amenities
- Public amenities like water fountains and well-maintained public spaces
Next Steps
Plan recommendations are underway! Guided by the abundance of community input we have received, the team is developing draft ideas and concepts to define a vision for future improvements on the Dempster Corridor. These will be shared for public review and comment at a second community workshop in January 2026. Make sure you are subscribed at PlanDempster.org to get more details as they become available! Thank you for your continued participation.
